2020 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD

7 YEARS COACHING EXPERIENCE

PLAYED FOR NAU & CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY

HOME LIFE: Emily spent her early youth in St. George, Utah and her later youth in Montana. It was here that she was first introduced to the opportunities of team sports. She was a three-sport athlete in high school and worked roofing/construction during the summers. She has since turned in her toolbelt and is now married to Michael Doxey. Emily and Mike spent the first few years of their marriage in Alaska where they worked, raised their family, and spent many, many weekends camping. They have three wonderful kids Abigail, Rion, and Sophia. When Emily is not engaged in volleyball, she enjoys spending time hiking, snowboarding, and being active in the outdoors with her family.

EDUCATION: Emily completed 3 years of college education before spending a year and a half serving a mission for her church. She later finished her final year of school at the University of Utah graduating with a B.S in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Nutrition. Helping athletes achieve their maximum potential has always been a passion for her. Emily has always been fascinated with how the human body works and continues to further her knowledge and understanding of how to better help athletes with physical performance and overall maintenance.

VOLLEYBALL CAREER: Emily competed in volleyball, basketball, and track in high school. She received collegiate offers for two different sports. Because of her passion and love for the game, she chose to pursue volleyball in college. She played Volleyball for NAU in South Dakota and later transferred to Concordia University in Nebraska. She received multiple honors throughout her collegiate volleyball career. Some of these included Outstanding Blocker award 3 years, Outstanding Hitter 2 years, All-Conference, and Team captain 2 years.

COACHING CAREER: Emily has been involved with volleyball in some way or other for close to 30 years. Whether coaching
different camps with her team in college or formally coaching her own team she continues to love and grow with the sport. She spent several years coaching with Club Boom in Salt Lake City. She is an assistant coach at Sky View High School in Smithfield and loves coaching for Mountain Peak.

WHY I COACH: "I love coaching this sport for so many different reasons. I love being able to watch the players see and develop their potential. I love the character that being involved in athletics can create along with the life lessons that can be learned. I adore the players that I get to coach and love to witness them experience things in themselves that they didn't believe that they could do. Being a part of team provides a “family” away from home and helps foster and create close and lasting relationships. These are all things that you just can’t put a price on!”

FAVORITE QUOTE: “When I tend to think of the awesome consequences of little things, I tend to think there are no little
things!”
