PEAK AWARDS

Below are the athletes who have received a PEAK award during the 2017-2018 club season. These athletes exemplify the PEAK qualities of Perseverance, Energy, Attitude, and Knowledge. Each athlete is specially recognized and receives an award. Thank you to the wonderful Mountain Peak athletes who make it so difficult each month for our coaches to select and nominate their PEAK athletes!

MAIZY

GILES

In life we go through so many trials and have to deal with many difficult things. We can choose to victimize ourselves, and give up, or learn and grow through perseverance. This season, Maizy has shown real dedication to technique despite difficulty and even when success came slowly. With only half a season in, she has improved all aspects of her game substantially.  This was not something that came easily for her, but took a great deal of effort and focus. She was recently injured severely and continues to support her team and is determined to bounce back and return to play. Maizy is the epitome of perseverance and reminds her teammates that you can reach your goals when you put in the time.

REBECCA

ODD

This was a hard award for me to choose based off the fact that my whole team has great attitudes on and off the court.  They all want to learn, improve, and are willing to make changes that their coaches ask them to do.  Rebecca Odd, however, exemplifies my two most favorite quotes about attitude, which are, “`A`ole e `olelo mai ana ke ahi ua ana ia,” which means, “Fire will never say that it has had enough.” And “`Ukuli`I ka pua, onaona I ka mau`u,” which means, “Tiny is the flower, yet it scents the grasses around it.”  Becca is always working hard both mentally and physically on and off the court.  She is always looking for ways to improve and is never satisfied with ok.  If she makes a mistake she is resolute to learn from it and to do better.  She has that fire and grit to block the ball at whatever cost, and to kill it in tough moments.  You can see her off the court watching others and learning from them or thinking about what she could do better next time she goes in.  She is a hard, determined, worker that has that fire and never says she has had enough.  She also is a positive influence on her teammates.  When games get tough, she has a way of making the team laugh and relax.  She doesn’t say anything negative to, or about, her teammates.  She has the ability to see those that are struggling and to pick them up.  She is only one player on the team, yet she positively affects all those around her, whether she is on the court with them, or off the court cheering for them.

AEZLEY

Aezley has such a great desire to learn everything there is to know about the game of volleyball. She works hard every day to improve her skills and she is definitely a leader to the girls on the team. She is passionate about the game and has shown so much improvement.

KNOWLEDGE

MCCALL

KAAE

Frequently found among teams is the tendency to be too hard on themselves and let one error influence the next play. We recently had a particularly rough tournament with less than stellar play but we were able to move through it with persistence and drive to improve and McCall has been a good example of this among my girls. She doesn’t dwell on poor execution and instead looks forward to the chance to perform more effectively
